General Food Tour Questions

What is a food tour?

Surprisingly, we get this question a lot! The answer is simple: it’s a walking history tour with stops at 4+ local food vendors. The goal is to learn the neighborhood’s history through delicious food.

How much food is on my tour?

Each tour has enough food to equate to a large meal. All the included food is listed on the product pages but is subject to change.

Do I need to pay for my food on my food tour?

No! The food in the description for each tour is included in the base price. If you want additional food or beverages, you can purchase them directly from the restaurants.

How long is the food tour?

Our food tours are 2.5-3.5 hours, depending on the size and speed of the group. We always like to take our time with our guests, but if you have a hard-stop time, please let your guide know.

Are drinks included on my tours?

Some food tours include specialty drinks; however, general soft drinks and water are not included in the base price. Please consider bringing a water bottle. Please note for private tours we do offer a soft drink add-on option.

How many people are on a food tour?

We have a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 10-12, depending on the food tour.

Where do I meet for my tour?

Your start location should be listed on your confirmation email and varies based on what food tour you purchased.

How will I find the tour guide?

Your tour guide will be outside the start location. Usually, they will also reach out to you before the experience to confirm any food restrictions.

What should I bring to my tour?

We suggest you bring a water bottle, a light sweater, to-go bags, and a rain jacket, depending on the weather. Please consider wearing comfortable walking shoes.

What should I tip my guide?

It is customary to tip your guide 15% if you enjoyed your experience. The guides are happy to accept cash or Venmo tips. For private groups, we automatically add a gratuity to your invoice. Please see the private and custom tour section for more information.

Are food tours just for tourists?

No, locals love learning more about their city.

What if I am late for a public tour?

We have a 15 min grace period for late-comers if you let us know you are late ASAP. After 15 minutes, we will do our best to help you find the group; however, the tour will not wait. Please note: when our guides are giving the tour, it is challenging for them to be on the phone to find you.

Is there a waiver for all food tours?

Yes, we ask all adults to scan and sign a waiver before your tour.

What is the restroom situation on the food tours?

Each tour has at least one bathroom option along the way.

Can I store my luggage somewhere while I take the tour?

Depending on your tour, we may be able to accommodate you. Please email us at info@stretchy-pants.com ahead of time, and we will try to accommodate you.

Do tours start and end at the exact same location?

No, but most tours end within five blocks from the start location.

Where should I park my car?

Street parking is minimal. However, some tours have local lots, which we have included on your ticket as a suggestion.

Is there a lot of walking?

Our tours are more about eating than walking! Each route is about 1 mile over 3 hours.

Are there a lot of hills?

No, we try our best to avoid hills.

I can't make it. What do I do?

Please let us know if someone in your party cannot make the experience, so we do not waste food.

Cancelations & Rescheduling

What is your rescheduling policy?

For public food tours (although we run our experiences rain or shine), feel free to email us if you see the weather looking bad or if something comes up. We will use reasonable efforts to reschedule with one week’s notice, pending availability, up to 1 time. We cannot take same-day switches. Please email info@stretchy-pants.com or text us at +1-415-545-8276 with your request.

What is your cancellation policy?

All sales are final.

What happens if the food tour I booked does not hit the minimum?

Although this is rare, if your food tour has less than two people booked for that slot, you will receive an email from us two days before your booking letting you know. That email will give you an option for a full refund, a free reschedule, or wait until the morning to see if anyone else books. If you choose to wait and no other party books for your time slot, you will receive a refund email.

Do I need to purchase a ticket in advance?

We will likely sell out, so we suggest tickets in advance unless you have spoken to us directly.

Are tickets transferable?

Yes! If you want to give your tickets to a friend, just email  Info@stretchy-pants.com

What if there is bad weather?

We run tours rain or shine, but if there is flooding or an earthquake, we may cancel. If we do cancel on you, you will receive a full refund or an option to reschedule. Since we have free reschedules, if the weather is looking terrible, we will reach out a few days before to give you the option to reschedule.

Private & Custom Tours

For more information about private and custom events, please download our ebook on the team building events page.

What is the difference between a public, private, and custom food tour?

A public food tour has other guests and sticks to the listed route. A private food tour is the same route as the public tours, with a wiggle room to change it up. A custom tour is built just for you.

What is the minimum number for a private tour?

We require a minimum of 6 seats to be purchased. If your group is over 6, you must purchase additional seats up to 25. After 14 people, we add an extra guide for $100.

Do you have public tours every day?

We only run public tours on Monday or Tuesday if requested. If you would like us to open up a new timeslot, please email us at info@stretchy-pants.com

Can I request a date/time for a public tour?

Yes, we can’t guarantee it, but it’s worth asking! Please email us at info@stretchy-pants.com

How do I add more people to my group?

It is easier to add people than take them away. We have a six-guest minimum for private events, and 15+ guests require an additional guide ($100). Groups of 6 – 14: Book 6, you can add up to 8 people 48 hours before. Groups of 15 – 25: Book 15; you can add up to 10 people 48 hours before.

Are food tours suitable for birthday or bachelor/ette parties?

Yes, if you are going to get a little rowdy, we recommend you book a private tour.
